LACHTMAN COHEN P.C. FILES CIVIL RIGHTS LAWSUIT ON BEHALF OF HISPANIC FAMILIES IN THE VILLAGE OF MAMARONECK
WHITE PLAINS, NY, July 15, 2022
Jason DeLeon, Ana Carraca-DeLeon, Ariela Rosa Mori-Gehring, and Walter Gehring, who reside on Staub Court in the Village of Mamaroneck, Westchester County, New York, filed a lawsuit against their neighbors, Douglas Dunaway, Maria Louise Dunaway, and Michael Dunaway, alleging that they have been subjected to hateful racist and anti-immigrant speech and various forms of harassment and intimidation by the Dunaways and fear for their safety. The DeLeons’ and Gehrings’ attorneys at Lachtman Cohen, P.C. filed the lawsuit on their behalf in federal court in White Plains, New York.
Lachtman Cohen, P.C. partner Brian Cohen said the lawsuit alleges that, over the course of several years, the DeLeons and Gehrings have been the targets of a daily barrage of racial epithets and slurs, bullying, threats, and false accusations about them to governmental entities. According to the lawsuit, the goal of the Dunaways’ campaign of terror is to drive Hispanic families out of Staub Court. The lawsuit further alleges that the Dunaways’ unlawful and discriminatory acts have resulted in significant life-altering disruption to the DeLeons’ and Gehrings’ lives and caused them to suffer emotional distress that prevents them from enjoying their homes and a basic sense of peace, safety and tranquility.
The Complaint asserts that the Dunaways violated federal and state civil rights and discrimination laws.
The DeLeons and Gehrings are represented by Lachtman Cohen P.C. Partner Brian S. Cohen and Of Counsel Gregory A. Blue and Lia E. Fierro.
The case, Jason DeLeon, et al. v. Douglas Dunaway, et al., was filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, Case No. 7:22-cv-06039. Read the Complaint HERE.
